It was forty years ago today
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They’ve been going in and out of style
But they’re guaranteed to raise a smile
So may me introduce to you
The act you’ve known for all these years
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Forty years ago today the Beatles released Sgt. Peppers. And the world of music hasn’t been the same since. 🙂
Put it in. Play it loud.
“With a Little Help from My Friends.” “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” The magnificent “She’s Leaving Home.” “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite.” And bringing it all home, “A Day in the Life.”
Play it. Again and again. Let it be 1967 again, even if just for a day.
Remember what the London Times critic Kenneth Tynan said of the album, that it was “a decisive moment in the history of Western civilization.” Decisive, indeed!
I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
I just had to laugh
I saw the photographHe blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords.
I’d love to turn you on.
And if anyone wants to buy me the Traveling Wilburys CDs for my birthday at the end of the month, I won’t complain… 😆
