A Voice From the Past

I turned on Instant Messenger tonight, and much to my surprise saw a name active on the Buddy List I hadn’t seen online in a very long time.

My best friend’s ex-girlfriend.

The last time I saw her was five years ago today. It was in Annapolis. It was a heavy snowstorm building to a blizzard. She and I drove around town, in search of lunch, as memory serves. Did she and I go to McDonald’s? I can’t remember.

Five years.

We chatted for a few moments, and then a bad connection disconnected me, and when I came back online she was gone.

I may drop her an e-mail.
