The Miracles of St. Tibulus

I was today years old when I discovered there’s a Father Ted fan film!

Today saw the nationwide “No Kings” protests against the Trump regime’s growing autocracy, and skimming through BlueSky I saw a number of photos of signs from the protests.

What I did not see were “Careful Now” and “Down With This Sort of Thing” signs.

In the Father Ted episode, “The Passion of St. Tibulus,” Ted and Dougal are tasked by Bishop Brennan with protesting a “blastphemous,” sexually explicit film about St. Tibulus. And so to the theater they go, with signs that read “Careful Now” and “Down With This Sort of Thing.” This being Father Ted, things spiral badly out of control for the priests on Craggy Isle.

Thinking about Dougal and Ted’s signs, I did a web search for St. Tibulus — he wasn’t a real Catholic saint, I already knew that — and that was how I discovered a fan film from 2014 about one of St. Tibulus’ miracles, an 18th-century apparation on Craggy Isle.

I will say no more, just that the fan film, “St. Tibulus & the Bog Water,” is charming. I enjoyed it. I hope you will, too.
