On the Fantastic Four trailer

As I mentioned in a previous post, I saw Revenge of the Sith yesterday afternoon.

Before the film were trailers for Batman Begins, a movie that looks like it could be the definitive Batman movie and the film to beat this summer, and Fantastic Four.

A caveat. I cannot stand the comic. I just don’t get the appeal of the Fantastic Four, and I’ve tried.

The trailer makes the film look okay. Compared to Batman Begins, which delivered chills in its trailer, the Fantastic Four film looks merely adequate.

What struck me about the Fantastic Four trailer, though, was the pounding guitar riff in the background. That’s familiar, I thought. I know that, it sounds like Oasis. Ten minutes into Revenge and I was sure.

It is Oasis. “Fuckin’ in the Bushes,” the first track off Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, their fourth album. It’s essentially a three-minute instrumental, pounding guitar and drums, with a sampled voice saying over and over, “Kids are running around naked, fucking in the bushes.”

I wonder at the subliminal message being sent here. Is the studio trying to suggest a nudist sex romp? Maybe I’ll have to reevaluate Fantastic Four on those merits–Jessica Alba in tight spandex is one thing, but Jessica Alba in a nudist sex romp is something else entirely.

The reality, of course, is that the studio (and I’m not sure who’s responsible for Fantastic Four) wanted an up-tempo guitar riff in the background, and “Fuckin’ in the Bushes” is definitely that.
