On the Nintendo Wii

So, in the next generation of the video game console wars the competitors will be the already-released Microsoft XBox 360, the upcoming Sony PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii.

That’s right.  The Wii.

Between you and me, I’m suddenly think Diane Duane and delphines here, but I’m sure that Star Trek geekdom isn’t what Nintendo had in mind.

Nintendo has always used code-names before they announce the official name for their systems.  The GameCube was code-named the Dolphin.  Revolution, as nice a name as that was, was merely a code-name for what we’ll be calling a few short months from now, the Wii.

The name is already going in for derision because of the name itself and the funky spelling.  Maybe it’s just me, but I’d be embarrassed to say to someone, “Hey, do you want to come over and play my Wii?”  Yes, that‘s going to go over well.  Of course, Penny Arcade may have the silliest take on the Wii’s name and how Nintendo got there. 🙂

Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo.  Why do they keep doing stupid things?
