Two interesting legislative initiatives are winding their way through the New Mexico legislature.
One would deal with Pluto. A law was passed declaring March 13th, 2007 “Pluto Planet Day.” An excerpt from the legislation:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that, as Pluto passes overhead through New Mexico’s excellent night skies, it be declared a planet and that March 13, 2007 be declared “Pluto Planet Day” at the legislature.
So, as Pluto passes overhead in New Mexico, it shall be a planet, not a whatever it is now.
Of course, this strikes me as legislatively silly as Indiana’s law setting pi at exactly 3. Not 3.1415 etc. Exactly 3.
Indiana’s just a weird fucking place.
I digress.
Two, the New Mexico legislature has taken up impeachment resolutions against President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. It seems that by the Rules of the House of Representatives articles of Impeachment can be sent by the states.
I don’t quite understand how this works. I don’t believe it’s ever been done before. Though I approve of the ends it all seems a little impractical to me.
Hmm, maybe I’ll write my own elected officials and ask them to take up the twin causes of Pluto planethood and executive branch impeachments. 🙂
Cool. I’m writing Rocky Anderson about the impeachment initiative. As far as Pluto, I don’t give a rat’s ass what the “scientists” say, Pluto’s been a planet throughout my (long 60 years) lifetime, so it’s still a planet AFAIC.
Of course, I’m not doing DST either….

Really? I hadn’t noticed! 😆

(Grrrr…)
JFTR, that comment was in reply to your observation about Indiana, but the comment form stripped out the line where I quoted you.
Heh. Geoff, my guess is it’s okay for AG to use the “f” word, but it whacked your quote in the comment because it was there?
JTFR, I rather agree with Indiana’s pi thing….
