On Language
Said I tonight at work, “The kittens are living behind my wheelie bin.” My assistant manager looked at me. “Your ‘wheelie bin’?” “You know,” I said, “my wheelie bin.” “Which is…?” “The garbage can I push out to the street every week?” “So, your garbage can.” “Right. My wheelie bin.” And then I realized that,Continue reading “On Language”
On Renewal
allyngibson.com will be with you for another year. I know, stay your disappointment. Some of you out there may have been hoping for a muzzle to silence my random bleatings. 😉 Domain and webspace renewed. In Bizarro speak, Me am happy!
On Kittens
I arrived home for work tonight and saw something running across the car port reflected in the headlights. I stopped the car, left the keys in the ignition, and investigated behind the metal shelving and the trash dumpster on the car port. Kittens. Three of them. The neighbors’ two cats had kittens recently, about aContinue reading “On Kittens”
On Interviewing
At work I interview a lot of people. As the store manager it’s part of the job requirements. A manager must staff his store. I also do second interviews. Other store managers interview an applicant, then send the applicant my way for a second opinion. I’ve done some interviews recently where, quite honestly, I’d haveContinue reading “On Interviewing”
On People I Don't Resemble

The boxes should be stacked one atop the other, but I like artistic flourishes with pyramids and spirals, so as I worked on putting together a PlayStation display the front door opened and a guy walked in.Continue reading “On People I Don't Resemble”
On an Annoyance
Said a woman to me at work today, “Your name is spelled wrong.” No. I’m sorry, but it’s not. I know I’ve mentioned my name before, but it bears repeating. “Allyn” is a name that’s been passed down in the family for a hundred years. I don’t know where it came from. I don’t knowContinue reading “On an Annoyance”
On Saturn's newly-discovered moon
First, scientists find the Mars Polar Lander. Now, astronomers on the Cassini project have found a moon tucked inside Saturn rings. The unnamed moon showed up in pictures taken by Cassini last week. The moon appears in the images as a tiny ball in a 155-mile wide black space in the ring known as theContinue reading “On Saturn's newly-discovered moon”
On the missing Mars lander
In 1999 NASA’s Mars Polar Lander crashed onto the surface of Mars. Now, a researcher at Malin Space Science Systems believes that the crashed Mars lander can be seen in photos of the Martian polar region taken by the Mars Global Surveyor. Interesting!
On Dan Quayle's Wisdom
“It’s a terrible thing to lose one’s mind,” former Vice President Dan Quayle said famously. I know of whence he speaks. I can feel it go. But all is not lost! At least, I don’t think it is….
