On Bobby Pickett

You may not know the name Bobby Pickett, but you almost certainly know his music….

I was working in my lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
My monster on the slab began to rise
Suddenly, to my surprise

He did the mash
He did the Monster Mash
The Monster Mash
It was a graveyard smash
It was a smash
It caught on in a flash
The Monster Mash
He did the Monster Mash

Bobby Pickett passed away Wednesday. Leukemia, according to reports. He was sixty-nine.

As for “The Monster Mash,” my favorite version has to be the Bonzo Dog Band cover. Vivian Stanshall sounds like a complete nutter, and nobody did novelty songs better than the Bonzo Dogs. 🙂

Rest in peace, Bobby Pickett.
