More on a Music Meme

Yes, I did this music meme yesterday. I said, at the time, that I’d gone the easy way out by picking the Beatles. “Do something challening,” a reader wrote in by e-mail. “Blow my mind,” she wrote.

Alrighty, then! Learning of Bobby Pickett’s death two days ago reminded me of one of the all-time great bands. An odd band, to say the least. A little-known band today. But still great!

The Bonzo Dog Band. Is that challenging enough for you? 😉

  1. Are you a male or female?
    “I’m the Urban Spaceman”
  2. Describe yourself:
    “Look at Me, I’m Wonderful”
  3. How do you feel about yourself?
    “Laughing Blues”
  4. Describe where you currently live?
    “Jollity Farm”
  5. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
    “By a Waterfall”
  6. Your best friend is:
    “Tubas in the Moonlight
  7. Favorite color:
“My Pink Half of the Drainpipe”
  8. You know that:
“My Brother Makes Noises for the Talkies”
  9. What’s the weather like?
    “Jazz, Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold”
  10. If your life was a television show, what would it be called?
    “Canyons of Your Mind”
  11. What is life to you?
    “Quiet Talks and Summer Walks”
  12. What is the best advice you have to give?
“Look Out, There’s a Monster Coming”
  13. If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
    “Dr. Jazz”
  14. What do you want to do right now?
    “Hunting Tigers Out in ‘Indiah'”

Ah, the Bonzo Dogs. 🙂

The band Death Cab for Cutie gets their name from a Bonzo Dog song of the same name. And that song turns up in the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour film. Paul McCartney produced the Bonzos hit song “I’m the Urban Spaceman,” and Bonzo Dog Neil Innes (also sometimes called the Seventh Python for his musical contributions to Monty Python) was the songwriter behind the Beatles-spoof band The Rutles.

Was that challenging enough, dear reader? (It had better be. I don’t know that I could pick a band more challenging than the Bonzo Dogs…)

  1. Of course there’s a “Seventh Python.” And there’s now a documentary movie about Neil Innes entitled The Seventh Python, with contributions from Michael Palin, John Cleese, and Terry Jones. If they can say he’s the seventh Python (though in Jones’ case, he says that Innes was certainly at least the sixth), who am I to argue? 😉
