The headline says it all: “To save America, we need another 9/11.”
I’m not sure what there is to say about Stu Bykofsky and said piece. I’ll let Stu speak for himself:
Remember the community of outrage and national resolve? America had not been so united since the first Day of Infamy – 12/7/41.
We knew who the enemy was then.
We knew who the enemy was shortly after 9/11.
Because we have mislaid 9/11, we have endless sideshow squabbles about whether the surge is working, if we are “safer” now, whether the FBI should listen in on foreign phone calls, whether cops should detain odd-acting “flying imams,” whether those plotting alleged attacks on Fort Dix or Kennedy airport are serious threats or amateur bumblers. We bicker over the trees while the forest is ablaze.
America’s fabric is pulling apart like a cheap sweater.
What would sew us back together?
Another 9/11 attack.
The Golden Gate Bridge. Mount Rushmore. Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The Philadelphia subway system. The U.S. is a target-rich environment for al Qaeda.
Words fail me.
He wants another terror attack on American soil so our nation will have something to rally around? He wants death because the political process sickens him?
Stu is one sick bastard. I’ll say that.
Stu also fails to realize that the things he’s complaining about — the American distaste for the Iraq adventure — exist because the President and his lackeys conflated 9/11 with Iraq. The only thing 9/11 and Iraq have in common is that both involved Arabs.
So, yes, the country is complaining about Iraq and our never-ending involvement there. Because we shouldn’t be there. Iraq had no involvement in 9/11. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.
Separate the War on Terror from the never-ending War in Iraq, explain the difference between the two, and people are in support of the former but not the latter. There’s reason for the former. There’s no reason for the latter.
Stu doesn’t get that.
Because Stu has bought into The Lie. That the two are connected.
The connection is that Bush says they’re connected. Except for when he or his minions say they’re not, that they’ve never said they’re connected, and how could anyone foolishly believe that they would suggest such a thing.
