On Favorite Baseball Movies

With the baseball season winding down — and my beloved Cubs out of the playoffs — I thought I’d fill the ample time until spring by naming off my top five baseball films of all time. 🙂

  1. The Natural
  2. Field of Dreams
  3. A League of their Own
  4. Pride of the Yankees
  5. Eight Men Out
  6. Bull Durham

Yes, I have six baseball movies in my top five. Because there’s not a movie there I can do without.

Years ago when I’d heard that Michael Bishop’s Brittle Innings — a novel about the Georgia minor leagues during World War II — was optioned for Hollywood, I was hoping for it. I’m not sure who I’d have cast for any of the roles a decade ago. I don’t know who I’d cast today. The casting for Jumbo Hank Clerval would have to be perfect, though. I don’t know. People certainly would have been talking about it, though. 🙂

Favorite baseball movies, anyone?

  1. My favorite baseball movie is, without a doubt, Major League. Seeing Dennis Haysbert as Pedro continues to crack me up to this day.

    “Hats for bats!”
