The Narnia quiz the other day started me thinking.
There’s a film based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe coming out in December. There will be a tie-in video game as well, for at least the PlayStation 2 and XBox, probably GameBoy Advance, perhaps even GameCube, PlayStation Portable, and who knows what the frell else.
The idea of running some sort of cross-promotion with the Christian bookstore a few doors down in the shopping center keeps tickling the back of the mind.
It seems to me that a film, especially a good film, based on C.S. Lewis’s works with a good tie-in video game could be the catalyst for bringing new customers to the store, perhaps customers who might not have shopped our store before but would be interested in our product (assuming the tie-in game is good) and vice-versa.
Of course, we’re talking about the store involved in the Buddy Jesus experience. Of course, I’m an atheist.
And we’re talking about a movie and a game nine months away.
Long-term view. I have a few months to think on this.
I read something the other day…maybe IMDB…hmmm about Disney approaching the evil ones…you know, Jesus worshipers, to try to get some of that Passion money for Narnia ticket sales….so you’re hell bound neigbors (yeah, G-d is real into that trinity thing….It’s the Lord is our god, the Lord is one, assholes, not three…) might have a bunch of material on it..or coming soon….
Now, I dare you to cross-promote Narnia and Doom3:-D

I’ve heard much the same, Todd, which confuses me to some degree, and I’ve also heard that Disney wants to screen the film to theologians and other religious experts for their blessing of the film to show that they’ve kept Lewis’ theology intact.
Here’s what I find confusing.
I know intellectually that Narnia is meant to be a Christian allegory, that Aslan is Jesus.
When I last read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, though, Aslan was a giant talking lion. Jesus? I’m sorry, I just don’t see it.
(My parents tell me that when I was seven I saw the parallels and they couldn’t. Go figure.)
It’s probably my biases. My atheism could be a yawning black hole in the psyche.
Or, it could be like Blade Runner. Deckard could be a replicant. Or he could be human. It’s all a matter of interpretation.
Maybe if I decide to reread Narnia before Christmas–which wouldn’t take long at a volume a day because they’re so short–I’ll see what I don’t see. Who knows.
I’m still partial to the idea of letting the Daleks loose in Narnia. Oh, that would be so fucking twisted. Screwtape would approve.
There’s some heavy Christ analogy going on..Aslan sacrificing himself to redeem the sins of the kid who gives into temptation for the candy…his rebirth…If you watch the cartoon, it’s pretty evident. The breaking of the old laws…stuff like that.
