On Strange Weather

Yesterday was beautiful. Sunny, warm with temperatures flirting with seventy.

It rained through the night. Temperatures fell into the forties. But the rain ended before the alarm clock went off, and while the world looked dreary on the way into work, I thought the worst of the weather was behind us.

Hardly.

The clouds were grey. They changed to black.

A crack of thunder. The wind whipped up. Rain fell in sheets against the store’s windows.

Then the hail began, falling from the sky, piling up against the windows, beating against the door.

More thunder. The power at the store tripped. The phone lines went out briefly in the middle of a conference call.

Fifteen minutes later the hail turned back to rain.

By ten the rain stopped. By noon the clouds cleared off, and the afternoon was clear, if brisk.

What can I say? It’s spring. Almost.

  1. So, not to do with the weather, but did you know that your blog is collapsed in msie?It looks fine in Firefox (this on windows..don’t know about mac)..but the sidebar is like in the middle of screen, covering up half of the comments side.

  2. Yes, Todd, I’m trying to figure out the problem with the CSS code. Part of me wants to say it’s just an IE problem, but that’s not a good problem to have.

  3. Woot, FF. I like the rain and clouds because I’m weird like that.

And Allyn, you wouldn’t get it. :p

Actually it’s from an old Penny-Arcade ad.

  4. Okay, so I’ve solved one part of the problem — it was the search box that was causing the problem. So, I’ve deleted the search box, which isn’t the ideal solution at all, but for right now it’s a start.

Of course, it’s not the first time I’ve had problems with the search box. Frelling search box.

Hmm, now to figure out why the comments form is acting as it is in IE–growing in size, and not word-wrapping the moment I start to type something. I have a feeling that a simple edit of the CSS code won’t fix matters satisfactorially, but I’ll give it a shot.

I’m tempted to say, “Screw it! It’s just IE.”

  5. Okay, I’ve now figured out a CSS tag that controls the size of this textbox, but I cannot for the life of me understand why in IE the textbox expands in size the moment I click in the box and start to type. No, it makes no sense at all.

I do understand now why IE was going crazy with the search box. I understand how it was interpreting the CSS code. I’m not sure why IE decided to interpret it in that particular fashion, but I understand how it was parsing the tags.

Hoom haroom. I must ponder this CSS some more. I think I’m beginning to see what’s going on and why in IE. Hum.
