On MLB 2006

A new baseball video game released today–MLB 2006 from 989 Sports for the Sony PlayStation 2. I may have to pick this game up–of the baseball games released for this season it’s the only game to have the Sosa/Hairston trade between the Cubs and the Orioles. The other games–EA’s MVP 2005 and Sega’s MLB 2K5–have Sammy Sosa still as a resident of the Friendly Confines. That’s not to say that the player can’t put the trade through himself, but it would have been nice if the developers had another week or two before their games’ releases to get the rosters a little more accurate and up-to-date. But no, when first to market means first to sell every day counts, and rosters become a best-guess sort of affair, taking what we knew in early January and running with that.

I’m not complaining, mind you.

So, MLB 2006. I may have to pick this one up. The graphics aren’t the best, but watching it at work today I could see that the developers put time and talent into trying to make a top-notch product. I rarely play my PlayStation 2 these days, but a good game or three could change that.
