On Farpoint Conversations

Keith: “I love this song. He’s so earnest in his vocals.”

Me: “It’s ‘House of the Rising Son.'”

Terri: “Yes, but the lyrics are about Winnie-the-Pooh.”

Me: “You took a song about a New Orleans whore house, and turned into a song about Winnie-the-Pooh?”

Keith: “Yep.”

Me: “You’ve just fucked with my childhood. That’s not cool.”

Keith: “It’s not just your childhood. That’s the point–it’s everybody’s childhood.”

Robbie: “They do the same with ‘Puff the Magic Dragon.'”

Me: “Kid, I don’t give a flying shit about ‘Puff the Magic Dragon.'”

  1. That’s one of my favorite songs, from the only album i listen to when I am writing, and now I will never be ble to think of it the same way again. 🙁

  2. In the interests of full disclosure, my line after Allyn bitching about fucking with his childhood was:

“It’s not just your childhood. We’re fucking with everybody’s childhood — it isn’t just about you.”

  3. Naw, what would really fuck with my childhood is a rewrite of the Disney Winnie-the-Pooh theme with lyrics about a whorehouse.

    “House in N’awlins
    House in N’awlins
Look here, there’s a hooker, all stuffed with…”

Yes, well, you see what I mean…
