Life is a sine wave. When it goes up, it goes way up. When it goes down, it goes way down. And from one extreme to another. Take yesterday. I stopped at the post office before work. I walked across the parking lot, and as I stepped into the lane of traffic along the postContinue reading “On Life as a Sine Wave”

More on the Coldplay Concert
As I mentioned yesterday, last night I attended the Coldplay concert here in Raleigh at Alltel Pavillion. I’ve been a fan of Coldplay for five years at least, and this was the first time I’d had the opportunity to see them live. Let’s get a few observations out of the way first. The crowd wasContinue reading “More on the Coldplay Concert”
On the Concert
Coldplay played Raleigh tonight. I was there. 🙂 Great concert. There were a few flubs along the way–“The Scientist” needed to be restarted–but Coldplay put on a magnificent show. The opening act, Rilo Kiley, didn’t impress at all. I’m tired. Will write more tomorrow.
On The Batman Cereal
Grocery store yesterday, buying lunch meat for dinner. I need breakfast cereal–I’d finished my box of Peanut Butter Cookie Crisp that morning. I don’t recommend the Peanut Butter Cookie Crisp, but that’s a story for another time. What do my eyes spy, but a cereal box with Batman on the front. The Batman cereal, LimitedContinue reading “On The Batman Cereal”
On the Use of Hamsters
The things students will do. One built a hamster-powered cell phone charger. [Peter] Ash told Ananova: “I thought the wheel could be made to do something useful so I connected a system of gears and a turbine.” He then patched the output to his mobe’s charger and voila! – free hamster energy at around thirtyContinue reading “On the Use of Hamsters”
On an Emergency Road Trip II
Back from Baltimore within the past half-hour. I’m tired–it’s a long drive, and traffic was terrible on US-301 leading up to the bridge over the Potomac. It’s not been a good day. The kittens are fine. They seem a little needy, and I can understand that. They’re curious about my grandmother, though–she doesn’t like them,Continue reading “On an Emergency Road Trip II”
On an Emergency Road Trip
Checking out for a few days, until Sunday. I need to make a trip to Baltimore, visit the grandmother. Until I return, play nice, admire the new digs, and think happy thoughts. 🙂 Out.
On Monsoon Season
Why must it be monsoon season in North Carolina? Every day rain. Heavy rain. Thunder and lightning. And then, with the snap of fingers, it’s over. The sky clears off, takes on a lovely hue, and you’d never even know that we’d been dumped on for two or three inches of hard rain. I hateContinue reading “On Monsoon Season”
On Daylight Savings Time
Yuck! Congress is considering a proposal to extend Daylight Savings Time. Currently it runs from the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October. The version contemplated by the Senate would move the beginning of DST to the middle of March and extend it to the first Sunday in November, while the HouseContinue reading “On Daylight Savings Time”
On Jim Aparo
Jim Aparo, Batman artist of the 1980s and early 1990s, has passed away. He was 72. I was always a fan of his work. I thought he brought an understated grace to Batman. Aparo will be missed.
