I’ve been thinking about this; I’ve seen people do it on LiveJournal. I am opening the floor to questions from the audience. I am, indeed. So what do you want to know? If you want to know how I take my coffee, here’s your chance. If your question is too personal, potentially libelous, or borderlineContinue reading “On Asking Allyn Questions”

On Finishing Torchwood
Torchwood, season one. As I mentioned a few days ago I recently started watching Torchwood, the BBC’s adult-oriented Doctor Who spin-off about a team of alien tech investigators. I’ve finished the first season, and what do I think? Torchwood was very much a mixed bag. There were moments that were absolutely incredible. There were episodesContinue reading “On Finishing Torchwood”
On Questions About Me
This one is Ross‘s fault, a bunch of random questions about me. Some were interesting. Some aren’t. Some I simply couldn’t answer. Let’s take a look, shall we?
On Being Poetry
Yet again, this is Keith’s fault. He posts these memes, how can I not take a look? 🙂 If I were a form of poetry, what form of poetry would I be? I am, of course, none other than blank verse.I don’t know where I’m going, yes, quite right; And when I get there (if IContinue reading “On Being Poetry”
On Being a Saint
In the annals of the completely random, this surely must be counted. I saw this and thought it was… strange. 🙂 If I were one of the fathers of the early Christian Church, who would I be? (Leaving aside the obvious cognitive dissonance of being an atheist….) You’re St. Jerome! You’re a passionate Christian, fiercelyContinue reading “On Being a Saint”
On Roadtrips
I was thinking of a short story I wrote about five years back. Pocket Books runs the Strange New Worlds contest for unpublished authors — they can write short stories featuring the Star Trek characters and submit to the contest. I was eligible, and I came up with an idea that I really liked. ItContinue reading “On Roadtrips”
On Experiencing Torchwood
Thanks to the kindness of beagles I’ve been watching this weekend the first season of Torchwood. For some readers Torchwood is an old hat. For other readers, unfamiliar with the program here’s a quick summary. Torchwood is a Doctor Who spin-off, following the adventures of Captain Jack Harkness (seen in the revived Doctor Who‘s firstContinue reading “On Experiencing Torchwood”
On a Random Beatles Listen
So here I am, listening to The Beatles. I’d spent some time a few weeks ago and copied most–but not quite all–of my Beatles collection to the hard drive for easy access at writing time. (The only things I didn’t copy? Live at the BBC, 1, and The Capitol Albums, because they duplicate so muchContinue reading “On a Random Beatles Listen”
On Dictionary Definitions
As is not uncommon, this is Keith’s doing. Many years from now, when I am added to the dictionary… Allyn — [noun]: A master of storytelling ‘How will you be defined in the dictionary?’ at QuizGalaxy.com I can picture the conversations now. “That Harlan Ellison, he was a real allyn, you know? Those short storiesContinue reading “On Dictionary Definitions”
On Weird Concepts
So an idea came to me. An alternate history novel. An alternate history novel about the Beatles. There have been a few Beatles alternate histories. Larry Kirwan’s Liverpool Fantasy comes quickly to mind, as does Stephen Baxter’s “The Twelfth Album” and Ian McLeod’s “Snodgrass.” The concept is doable. It’s something that conceivably could have happened.Continue reading “On Weird Concepts”
