Getting Better all the Time

I’m getting the hang of this backgammon thing. I still will not say I’m great, I’m not even sure that I’m good, but I’m seeing regular success.

This one was pretty straightforward. Nothing remarkable here. I’ve moved five pieces off the board, while white is still moving pieces toward its home.

This one was definitely messy and a slugfest. In a way, white has me boxed in… on my own side of the board, while I also have white boxed in and keeping it from moving to my side of the board. I was able to get around white while still keeping white bottled up somewhat.

This one was a delight. White ended up in a position where I sent one of its pieces off the board and the way I filled in my home quadrant white was unable to get it back on. This was another vistory.

My piece de resistance! This was yesterday, and this one was going to be a coinflip. White was definitely in the better position going into the endgame, but some lucky rolls and I was right there, removing pieces at the same pace… and then it came down to each of us having one piece left to remove… and it was my move!

This one was definitely satisfying.

Now that I’m gaining confidence, just watch — I’ll have a run of a dozen games where the computer absolutely crushes me. 😆

As Jimmie Nicol, the ex-Beatles drummer said, “getting better!”
