In The Empire Strikes Back Luke has a run-in with the Dark Side tree where he confronts his fears and has a vision of Darth Vader. In the Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy it’s explained that Yoda killed a Dark Jedi during the Clone Wars on that spot, and his evil infected the area making itContinue reading “On Dagobah's Dark Side tree”
On the Cybermen
“Excellent” is a part of my usual vocabulary. I noticed recently that when saying “Excellent” I drop my voice by an octave and do a Cyberman impression. I wonder why that is. Perhaps to counterbalance that I should adopt a raspy voice and say, “Excellent, Smithers.” Then, somewhere in between I’ll sound like myself.
On the new Oasis album
Oasis released their first CD in three years today, Don’t Believe the Truth. I’ve listened to it twice now. I’m not taken with it. And I’ll be damned if I could really explain why. The music is okay, but not catchy. What it sounds like is a Beatles tribute band, only moreso. And yes, IContinue reading “On the new Oasis album”
On the Fantastic Four trailer
As I mentioned in a previous post, I saw Revenge of the Sith yesterday afternoon. Before the film were trailers for Batman Begins, a movie that looks like it could be the definitive Batman movie and the film to beat this summer, and Fantastic Four. A caveat. I cannot stand the comic. I just don’tContinue reading “On the Fantastic Four trailer”
On Revenge of the Sith
I finally found the time to see the film this afternoon. I was bored out of my skull. I think that the film could be edited down to an hour, tops, and be the stronger for it. Political posturing, the Kashyyyk interlude, the pitched battle between the Clone Army and Grievous’s forces on some godforsakenContinue reading “On Revenge of the Sith”
On Boston Legal's second season
I like Boston Legal. Unfortunately, ABC pulled the show months ago to make room for Grey’s Anatomy, a show I watched and yet despised. For Legal‘s second season we can expect some cast changes. Julie Bowen, formerly of Ed will join the cast. But that comes with a downside. Monica Potter and Rhona Mitra willContinue reading “On Boston Legal's second season”
On the Solar System
Two noteworthy events around the Solar System these past few days. First, Voyager 1 has passed into interstellar space. I remember as a child watching television and seeing the Voyager photos of Jupiter and Saturn. News bulletins interrupting afternoon programming. That was a great time to be alive, to be young, to have dreams. AndContinue reading “On the Solar System”
On Stately Wayne Manor
As a kid I loved watching the Adam West Batman television series. In retrospect it wasn’t the best way to experience Batman–it didn’t take the character or his universe seriously. But it was loud, crass, and colorful, all of which appealed to this young child. And I loved how the show named things. Bruce WayneContinue reading “On Stately Wayne Manor”
On the House Season Finale
Last night closed out the first season of FOX’s critically acclaimed and hightly rated medical drama, House. Here’s the story. Stacy Warner, once the love of Doctor Greg House’s life, asks him to examine her husband–he’s having abdominal pains and bouts of paranoia. House, against his better judgment, agrees, but Mark, the husband, puts offContinue reading “On the House Season Finale”
On Rewatching Attack of the Clones
I watched Attack of the Clones tonight on FOX. Random thoughts. Damn, that was terrible. What was the story again? Obi-Wan looked positively stupid with longish hair. Has Frank Oz forgotten how to do his Yoda voice? CGI Yoda looked kinda fake. Why the frell didn’t anyone realize that Dooku escaped to Coruscant? Don’t theyContinue reading “On Rewatching Attack of the Clones”
