Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy opens on Friday. In the store we’re planning a group trip to see it. Then, on an e-mail list, I received a link to this review. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won’t believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean,Continue reading “On H2G2”

On Fever Pitch
I went with my sister a few days ago to see the new film Fever Pitch, based loosely on Nick Hornby’s memoir of his love affair with the London soccer team Arsenal. It was filmed once before, adapted by Hornby himself, and starred Colin Firth. The new version stars Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore, andContinue reading “On Fever Pitch”
On the Long-Term View
The Narnia quiz the other day started me thinking. There’s a film based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe coming out in December. There will be a tie-in video game as well, for at least the PlayStation 2 and XBox, probably GameBoy Advance, perhaps even GameCube, PlayStation Portable, and who knows what theContinue reading “On the Long-Term View”
More on Movies
I’ve done a movie meme in the past two months, but I saw this on James DiBenedetto‘s webpage and thought, Why not? Of the American Film Institute’s top 100 films, which have I seen? Let’s take a look, shall we? CITIZEN KANE (1941) CASABLANCA (1942) THE GODFATHER (1972) GONE WITH THE WIND (1939) LAWRENCE OFContinue reading “More on Movies”
On Constantine
Yesterday the Judge Dredd video game arrived in stores. Released eighteen months ago in Europe, its North American release had been delayed time and again as the game changed publishers and reviews savaged the game. In the back of my mind I couldn’t believe that the company spent the extra money to have Judge DreddContinue reading “On Constantine”
On Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing
Steve Mollmann wrote in the comments, ” I figured out who Robert Sean Leonard [was]. He’s the guy who ruined Kenneth Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing. OK, so it was Keanu Reeves who ruined it. But Leonard didn’t exactly help.” Ah, Branagh’s Much Ado. Visit Target and you’ll probably see the DVD cheap. Five orContinue reading “On Branagh’s Much Ado About Nothing”
On Pooh and Heffalumps
I went to see Pooh’s Heffalump Movie yesterday afternoon. It’s a fun film, nothing earth-shattering. Someone who likes Pooh will like the movie. Someone who doesn’t like Pooh will probably be bored out of their skull. The story focuses mainly on Roo. A mysterious sound awakens the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood one morning,Continue reading “On Pooh and Heffalumps”
On the Coming of Heffalumps!
I saw a commercial today for Disney’s new animated film about Pooh and the Heffalumps. The animation looks sub-par. Still, it’s Pooh, and that forgives a lot. The film opens Friday, I think. Must remember–go see the Heffalump movie! In the meantime, why not read Peter David’s The Genesis of the Heffalumps?
AVP: The Alternate Beginning
Alien versus Predator‘s DVD package proudly proclaims on its front, “With an Alternate Beginning never shown in theaters!” Okay. Don’t get excited. The alternate beginning is a roughly one-minute long pre-credits teaser that shows what happened the last time the Predators visited their Antarctic hunting grounds. I thought it would have been in the deletedContinue reading “AVP: The Alternate Beginning”
Feeling Like a Kid
Come spring there will be a Heffalump Movie. A Heffalump Movie! I feel like a kid just thinking about it.
