Who North America is running a sale on Doctor Who videos–a goodly number are running at 4.50 each. Just what I need, more Doctor Who videos, but I do have some gaps in the collection to fill, and how can one say “No!” to such inexpensive videos? 🙂

On Fan Films
Slate.com posted an article today on Revelations, a Star Wars fan film. I’ve not seen the film–the pity of a dial-up connection–but I’ve seen a few Star Wars fan films. The classic Troops I have on DVD. The article’s idea is that with Lucas finishing what he wanted to say in the Star Wars universeContinue reading “On Fan Films”
More Thoughts on the Cats
Woody and Tails have been fighting in the house. Tails doesn’t like people. Tails doesn’t like other cats. She never has. Tails sleeps during the day, all day long, and avoids people like the plague. But when the sun goes down, when the world goes still, in the dark she will wander the house andContinue reading “More Thoughts on the Cats”
On My Republicanism
Seen on Bill Leisner‘s blog, a test to measure your Republican percentage! Let’s take a look, shall we? I am: 7% Republican. “You’re a complete liberal, utterly without a trace of Republicanism. Your strength is as the strength of ten because your heart is pure. (You hope.)” Are You A Republican? I tend to thinkContinue reading “On My Republicanism”
More on H2G2
Yesterday I cited an early review of this week’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Today FilmThreat has a feature on the marketing of Hitchhiker’s. Two quotes stand out, both near the end: Between the unfunny posters, unfunny trailers and unfunny website Disney isn’t doing a very good job of marketing this as a movie. TheContinue reading “More on H2G2”

On H2G2
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy opens on Friday. In the store we’re planning a group trip to see it. Then, on an e-mail list, I received a link to this review. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won’t believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean,Continue reading “On H2G2”
On the LEGO Star Wars Artwork
At Easter I gave my sister a few of the display sleeves we received at the store for the LEGO Star Wars video game. She manages a frame shop, and I asked for her to frame one–preferably the XBox cover, but she suggested the PlayStation 2 cover because the artwork was cleaner on the “front.”Continue reading “On the LEGO Star Wars Artwork”
On the Psi Phi Awards
The Psi Phi Awards are given each year for outstanding achievement in Star Trek publishing. Awards are given for best novel, best cover, best series, best new novelist, and a dozen other categories. This year I was asked by the Awards’ organizers to write the presentation speech for Best Cover. Even though I had aContinue reading “On the Psi Phi Awards”
On Inventory
It’s done. My last inventory at the store was a year and a week ago. It’s not the longest span I’ve had between inventories–that was seventeen months back in 2001–but it’s the longest I’ve had since I came down to North Carolina. Previously, I’d been averaging a physical inventory every eight months or so. RuleContinue reading “On Inventory”
