On Curt Schilling’s Decision

I wrote three weeks ago that Curt Schilling was considering one more season in baseball, pitching for either the the Chicago Cubs :cubs: or the Tampa Bay Rays. He’s made his decision. Schilling has decided to hang up his cap and retire. I didn’t see a role for Schilling with the Cubs this season anyway.Continue reading “On Curt Schilling’s Decision”

On Random Saturday Things

I like post offices with gift shops. The Elderburg post office has a nice gift shop. They had all sorts of collectible things. I bought a postcard set. And Edgar Allan Poe stamps. I bought a picture frame. My mother gave me a photograph of my grandfather; it’s from the early 1940’s, and he’s inContinue reading “On Random Saturday Things”

On the Monday Morning View

Ever have a day where you feel like something… momentous is going to happen? Today is one of those days. The world had a different… quality today. Maybe it’s the seagulls flying overhead. On World Series Speculations

Weather in Philadelphia was miserable last night. Watching game five of the World Series, I can’t imagine why they even tried to play it. On the 2008 World Series

Then there’s the Phillies, cursed by the William Penn statue and the losingest team in baseball history. I don’t really want either teamContinue reading “On the 2008 World Series”

On Merkle’s Boner, One Hundred Years Later

One hundred years ago today, on September 23, 1908, the Chicago Cubs and the New York Giants met in the Polo Grounds. The National League pennant was on the line, and in the bottom of the ninth the Giants were on the verge of winning. What followed later generations called “Merkle’s Boner.” A fly ballContinue reading “On Merkle’s Boner, One Hundred Years Later”

On the Cubs’ Post-Season

Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win! :cubs: The Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals today, 5-4, at Wrigley. The Cubs clinched the National League Central, repeating as the NL Central Division champion. This is also the first time, since 1908, the Cubs have gone to the post-season two years in a row. Cubs win! CubsContinue reading “On the Cubs’ Post-Season”
