The strange little box in the sidebar is now fixed. I’ve written my first WordPress plug-in. As you can tell, it generates a date in Shire Reckoning.
On Nothing
Nothing to say today, not really. Some may have noticed a strange, new box in the sidebar. A little project of mine. As of right now it’s broken, but not to fear–I’ve found the error.
On Customers and Snarkiness
I couldn’t deny it. The kid was baked. Two guys walked in the store and made a bee-line to the 8-bit Nintendo dump bin. The taller of the two, the one wearing sunglasses, said that he needed some games for a party they were holding tonight. He asked how the games were priced–it depends–and startedContinue reading “On Customers and Snarkiness”
On Kentucky Zombies
This belongs in the annals of stupidity. A Kentucky high school student was arrested as a possible terrorist for writing a short story about zombies attacking a high school. From the article: Winchester police say William Poole, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday morning. Investigators say they discovered materials at Poole’s home that outline possibleContinue reading “On Kentucky Zombies”
On Restaurant Survey Cards
I met my parents, my sister, and her boyfriend this evening for dinner at the Red Robin in North Raleigh. I’ve been to Red Robin once before, last spring down in Wilmington when opening a new store. I had a Bonzai Burger–grilled in teriyaki sauce, topped with cheddar cheese and grilled pineapple. Oh, oh golly!Continue reading “On Restaurant Survey Cards”
On Random Meanings
WordPress comes pre-installed with a plug-in to insert a random line from Louis Armstrong’s song “Hello, Dolly” into the header of the admin screens I see when working on the website. I never activated the plug-in until today because I never saw the point–the song has no intrinsic meaning to me, and why clutter upContinue reading “On Random Meanings”
On the Razzies
I wonder what questions the White House press corps ask of Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, on the President’s latest honor. From today’s Raleigh newspaper: George W. Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger won elections. Now they’ve won Razzies. The [Razzie] awards, doled out in Hollywood on Saturday, are an Oscar spoof that trashes Hollywood’sContinue reading “On the Razzies”
On Constantine
Yesterday the Judge Dredd video game arrived in stores. Released eighteen months ago in Europe, its North American release had been delayed time and again as the game changed publishers and reviews savaged the game. In the back of my mind I couldn’t believe that the company spent the extra money to have Judge DreddContinue reading “On Constantine”
On Deja Vu
I call them “deja vu moments”–time seems to stop, and for the briefest of moments I know I’ve “seen” this before. Tonight, while straining macaroni I had a “deja vu moment.” Yesterday, scribbling some notes at work, I had one. A few days ago, while doing nothing of any import at work, I had another.Continue reading “On Deja Vu”
On My Day
I planned on writing a completely different post. It’s even drafted. For a variety of reasons, though, it won’t appear here–a little too much about corporate myopia and tunnel vision. This evening I conducted an interview. Store managers in the district send employee candidates to me for a second interview, and after a few fitsContinue reading “On My Day”
