The penultimate episode of Doctor Who‘s third season isn’t perfect.
But Holy! Fuck!
Three years and two series have been building toward this. You can tell. It started last week, as the threads pulled closer. This week? All bets are off.
The sound of drums? It’s the sound of the tension being ratcheted up.
The last five minutes?
Wow.
There’s one thing that lets the episode down, and that’s the feeling that this cribs a lot from Lawrence Miles’ Benny novel Dead Romance. (Though calling it a “Benny novel” is a misnomer–Benny’s name-checked, but that’s it.) But y’know? That’s a minor thing.
Because those last five, ten minutes?
Wow.
