On Random Thoughts, Late Friday Afternoon

At a meeting today…

“We’re not writing Hemingway here.”

No, I try and write like Fitzgerald, thanks.

Last night, while listening to the BBC World Service on NPR, I heard something I’d never, ever heard before.

I heard someone pronounce “February” the way it’s spelled.

I’ve always heard people say “Fe Byoo Airy.” Sometimes, just to be fun, I’ll say “Fe Brew Airy,” and that throws people, but it doesn’t come naturally to me and I have to think to do it.

But this news presenter, he with the RP accent, he said it “Fe Brew Ree.”

It was the coolest thing I’d ever heard.

And it made me go, “So that‘s how it’s supposed to be said!”

I suppose I’ll practice for like a month, so that I can start saying it right.
