On Kelsey Grammer's Second Act

F. Scott Fitzgerald said that there are no second acts in American lives.

Kelsey Grammer is one of the great actors of our time. Frasier is one of the great television programs of all time.

Unfortunately, Kelsey Grammer’s second act blows chunks.

FOX debuted tonight Kelsey Grammer Presents: The Sketch Show. Half an hour of unknown actors engaged in short–thirty second to three minutes long–comedic vignettes.

And it was incredibly unfunny.

The vignettes were punchlines, not jokes. Denouement, no set-up.

I like Kelsey Grammer as much as the next person. He’s a fantastic actor, and were it not for Laura Linney not wanting to do network television we would very probably have Grammer today gracing our televisions once more as Dr. Frasier Crane. But I pray to the television gods that The Sketch Show crashes and burns.

Because it just plain blows.

  1. You are so right. This show was so painful to watch, I felt embarrassed for anyone taking part in it. Although I was walking in and out of the room after the first couple of bits, they lost me at the Suntan Lotion/birdpoo sketch. “Ha-haaa! He’s massaging birdpoo into her back and she thinks it’s Coppertone. Hah-hahhhh. Stop! You’re killing me!!!” After 10 minutes of hoping the next sketch would finally put an end to my tears, I finally grabbed the remote and turned it onto a repeat of The Man Show.
I’d seen it before, but it was still far-r-r-r-r-r funnier than this atrocity called The Sketch Show. They should have called it The Wretch Show.

If this intrusion into our homes makes it past 3 more episodes, it will surely be a sign of the Apocalypse.
