On July 4th

Today, we commemorate America’s Declaration of Independence from Britain over two centuries ago. Many of us, as Homer Simpson so proudly proclaimed, will spend today celebrating America by blowing up a small part of it.

I’m reminded today of something I encountered last year, people in lawn chairs along the interstate to view fireworks.

In other news…

You Are 60% American

Most times you are proud to be an American.
Though sometimes the good ole US of A makes you cringe
Still, you know there’s no place better suited to be your home.
You love your freedom and no one’s going to take it away from you!

I’m merely sixty percent American. I think the test’s biased. 😉

Sensibly, this year the company decided to shutter stores at the reasonable hour of six. Business was quite strong. I think it’s the heat–Raleigh has been positively unseasonal of late, and that makes people want to do things they can do indoors such as playing video games.

Percy has been doing well. He’s readjusted to his life at home, though he’s lost any interest in going outside.

All in all, today’s been a nice day. Sparklers, fireworks in the neighborhood. And a book that had been dogging me has finally found its forward momentum. Call me content.
