On Prepping for the Next Upgrade

On Monday the new version of WordPress drops, and being the bleeding-edge person that I am it’s inevitable that Monday I’ll download WordPress 2.3 and break lots of shit when I upgrade. 😆

No, seriously. I’m not planning on upgrading immediately this time around. I still have nightmares of the 2.1 upgrade — that broke lots. I’ll give it a few days, let other people suffer, and then, probably sometime next weekend, I’ll take the plunge.

The change of the website’s theme was motivated, in part, by the impending release of 2.3. A theme closer to the standard seemed like a good idea. At the very least, I’ll be able to see in the theme code what’s changed under the hood.

I’ve also gone and done a back-up of the database. Thirteen hundred posts, thirteen hundred comments, and a whole hell of a lot of other data. So that’s done.

Just thinking ahead. 😉

  1. That’s funny, I just got done reading some information on WordPress 2.3, and when I check Google Reader, there I find this post.

I’m nervous about this upgrade, and I think I’m going to be changing my theme too. I have a test blog on my hosted domain where I tweak new themes first, and I’m thinking of mirroring my setup completely and upgrading that to WP 2.3…
