On Request Audience Questions

Some questions have come up recently through Google. Here’s three:

is Allyn a man’s name?

The last time I checked, it was. 🙂

“Allyn” has taken on some gender ambiguity and, yes, there are people who are sometimes surprised to find that I’m male when they meet me for the first time. It is becoming the female form of “Allyn.”

1970s pot guy John Lennon supports.

I’m thinking that would be John Sinclair, the subject of a song Lennon released on his dreadful political album, Sometime in New York City. He was sentenced to ten years in prison for selling two joints to an uncover police officer.

Finally, eb games manager wage.

These days? Not a whole heck of a lot.

When I started with EB Games back in ’99, managers started out between 28k and 32k, and assistant managers between 22k and 24k. At the time of the buyout by GameStop, I didn’t know of any managers starting out under 30k. Post-buyout, managers started out under 25k, and assistant managers were in the 18k to 22k range. The disparity between GameStop pay rates across the board and EB Games pay rates for the same position was, frankly, shocking.

Nearly two years on I don’t imagine that’s changed. There probably isn’t a pay disparity anymore, due to turnover. I’ve always thought you can tell a lot about a company by what they pay their employees; the more replacable they consider you, the less they’re willing to pay.
