I haven’t done a search phrase round-up in a while. Let’s take a look at the top 20 of March. 🙂
20. “Jason Gronberg.” A friend of mine. He passed away in November. One of my favorite memories of Jason.
19. “Napoleon.” One of my favorite sparring partners in Age of Empires III. Except for when he’s my ally and a complete git.
18. “Why did Monica Potter leave Boston Legal.” It’s called “the David E. Kelley Revolving Cast Door,” people.
17. “John Lennon’s Penis.” Which can be seen, in all its glory, on the cover of Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins.
16. “Narrative conventions.” I wrote in June about an interview with Michael Ondaatje, author of The English Patient.
15. “Lego Tardis.” We’ll deal with this one later. 😉
14. “Why did Rhona Mitra leave Boston Legal.” See number 18 above.
13. “Green Street Hooligans book.” I liked the film, Green Street Hooligans. I haven’t read any books on hooliganism, though.
12. “Things that happened on my birthday.” I don’t know what happened on your birthday, sorry. *sigh*
11. “Tudor costume.” I watched some Tudor costume dramas at the end of February. I liked The Tudors. Elizabeth: The Golden Age worked hard at making me dislike it. It’s beautiful, but the story meanders terribly.
10. “Why can’t Jack Harkness die.” Because Rose made him that way. 🙂
9. “How to bury a pet.” I buried a cat a few years ago. It’s not a how-to guide, sorry.
8. “New Blackadder.” At this point, I’m not sure it’s going to happen. But three years ago, it looks like there was some movement.
7. “Doctor Who Stephen Fry.” Short answer — Stephen Fry was going to write a script for the new Doctor Who. It didn’t happen.
6. “Across the Universe sequel.” It’s apparently something Across the Universe director Julie Taymor is considering.
5. “Allyn” or “Allyn Gibson.” People are looking for me? What’s up with that?
4. “Abducted by the Daleks.” It’s the Dalek porn.
3. “World War III.” I don’t know what people are looking for here, unfortunately.
2. “Beatles songs on American Idol.” I suggested some interesting song choices, and then I was annoyed with their actual song choices.
And, the top search hit for the month of March?
1. “Lego Doctor Who.” Make it happen, LEGO Corporation and the BBC. Make it happen. Please. 🙂
ETA: Normally I add snarky thoughts when I do one of these search phrase round-ups. Rereading this, while I may have been insufficiently snarky, I also believe that I was insufficiently insightful. 😉
I was tempted to leave #20 off the list, simply for privacy reasons.
I’m not sure why anyone thinks I’m an expert on #17.
I find #16 interesting, for some not-so-obvious reasons. Come the end of May, however, those reasons will be made plain. 🙂
I would like to build a LEGO TARDIS (#15), but I would need to order bricks. I’ve seen pictures of the TARDISes that others have built from LEGO, and to be honest I don’t really like that many. Partly, it’s a problem of scale; you can’t build a good TARDIS at LEGO minifig scale.
I really should watch Green Street Hooligans (#13) again.
My theory on why Jack Harkness can’t die (#10) is that time rewinds for Jack. (You can see it happen in “Everything Changes,” when his bullet wound goes away after Susie plugs him in the forehead.) It’s not so much that Jack is immortal, but that Rose gave him Temporal Grace. Just as one can’t die inside a TARDIS in flight, so too is Jack trapped in a state of Temporal Grace. Rose didn’t mean to do it, she was probably even unconscious of what she’d done, but the end result is that Jack Harkness can’t ever die. (Which is why I don’t hold to the idea that Jack is the Face of Boe. There’s too much of a change for someone in a state of Temporal Grace.) That’s my theory, and I’m sticking to it.
While I would like an Across the Universe sequel (#6), given factors like the production problems Julie Taymor had with the studio and the film’s vast sea of financial red, I’m not anxiously expecting one. Oh, but it could be fascinating — what about a story of the 1970s, using solo Beatles songs? That could be awesome. 🙂
As for Abducted by the Daleks (#4), it’s not worth tracking down, unless you want to marvel at the Dalek production design. Seriously. The Dalek production design is more interesting than the film’s pornographic content.
