What does Mariah Carey have against you?
What are you most interested in right now in the categories of:

I only ask number three because I just saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang last night, and am about to watch it again right now. It was that good.
Let’s combine three of your most common (recently) post topics into one question.
Which jackass would Dr Who choose as his Vice-Presidential running-mate this year? (Assume he got a major party nomination, and you can choose which major party)
Todd, how should I know? It’s not like I hang with Mariah Carey. Hell, I’d have to do a Google image search to even have some idea what she looks like!
Jacob, if the Democrats nominated Doctor Who for President, he would probably best match up with someone young and energetic. Someone to play Captain Jack, basically. (You could go the other way, and say he needed someone for some Unresolved Sexual Tension, but then your choices are either Hillary Clinton or Kathleen Sebelius. Not likely.) So, I’d say that Doctor Who should pick either Barack Obama or John Edwards as his running mate. Or possibly even Captain Jack himself. 🙂
If the Republicans nominated Doctor Who for President, they would need someone who appeals to the base. We tend to think of the Doctor as liberal and atheistic, so the Doctor would need a staunch conservative and a Bible-thumper on the ticket to keep the base from bolting in November. Haley Barbour, governor of Mississippi, would be the best choice, followed by former governor Mike Huckabee. My third choice would be Mavic Chen.

Casper the Friendly Ghost: Ghost of Richie Rich or some other random dead child?

That said, I liked the take in Hellboy Jr. story that parodied Casper and Wendy the Good Witch. Where Wendy gets herself killed so she can hang out with Casper, which turns out not to be anything like she thought it would be. 😆
Carey, current interests….
1) Writing. For my own writing, I’m really taken with a short story I’m working on. It’s a mainstream, contemporary piece, which means I have absolutely no idea where to sell it.
There’s a blog on writing that I’m enjoying a great deal at the moment as well. Lance Parkin, the author of a number of Doctor Who books, has set up a blog to discuss his next novel, The Eyeless. So far, he’s discussed the challenges in writing tie-in fiction (which is interesting, because my published work has all been tie-ins), and writing up a plot synopsis. While I disagree with Parkin on length and detail — and he writes that other writers approach synopses differently — I can’t disagree with him on the importance of synopses.
See, I need a synopsis. At the very least, I need to know my endpoint, and see some of the map in between. If I try and write something without knowing where I’m going, I’ll flail, I’ll lose interest, and the work goes in a file, unwanted and unloved. About the longest work I can write without some sort of map is in the 4k range, which is one, maybe two sittings, and then I can “see” the story in my head. Anything longer than that, I have to map things out first. 🙂
2) After The Time Traveler’s Wife (which I keep meaning to blog about — and haven’t), I started Great Harry’s Navy, on King Henry VIII’s building of England’s navy.
I also read recently When Chicago Ruled the Baseball World, about the 1906 Cubs/White Sox World Series, which is accounted the greatest upset in baseball history. Unfortunately, I didn’t find this book either compelling or good. It was dry and boring. As a work of social history about the social conditions of a century ago, it was interesting. As a work of baseball history, it seemed almost incidental. The baseball games aren’t brought to life, and there’s little sense of context beyond the confines of the six games in October 1906.
As for comics, I’ll write a bigger post this weekend. Maybe.
3) I haven’t seen anything since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, either in the theater or on DVD. :/
The next two films I’m anxious for are Hellboy II and The Dark Knight. I just picked up The Sword in the Stone on DVD; that was one of my favorite Disney animated films as a kid, so I’m curious to see how it’s held up.
I haven’t been in a movie mood of late.
Do you eat Grape Nuts?

Not normally, no. Come to think of it, I can’t think of the last time I had Grape Nuts.
My grandmother was trying to eat them recently. She took a whole handful out of the box, and shoved them in her mouth. Then complained because they were so hard.
She does that. She’ll snack on anything she can get her hands on, even if it’s not something she likes, and she’ll leave food scattered across the kitchen. It would be amusingly charming, if it weren’t so sad.
