As long time readers know, there’s probably no President I admire more than T.R. himself, Teddy Roosevelt. From his military career to his historical writings, from his tireless dedication as the Police Commissioner of New York to his unceasing championing of progressive ideals, Teddy Roosevelt was truly one of America’s greatest presidents, and I often describe myself as a “Teddy Roosevelt Republican.” 🙂
I received, this very morning, an e-mail from the History Channel. Today, wouldn’t you know it, is the 150th birthday of Roosevelt. Here’s what the History Channel had to say:

Theodore Roosevelt didn’t just carry a big stick; he waved it vociferously. And as a man of his word, he didn’t back down. It’s no wonder that—in light of his laundry list of successes—Teddy Roosevelt is remembered as one of our nation’s greatest presidents.
In honor of the sesquicentennial of his birth (today, Oct. 27, 2008), The History Channel Magazine editors put together a short list of accomplishments that commemorate the legacy of TR:
- As lieutenant colonel of the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War, he led the charge at the battle of San Juan.
- He provided federal protection for almost 230 million acres and doubled the size of the national park system.
- By building up the U.S. Navy, he established America as a major world power.
- He negotiated U.S. control of the Panama Canal and its construction in 1904.
- He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for negotiating peace in the Russo-Japanese War.
