Now, Scav‘s up to bat–ten fandom-related questions on Doctor Who.
- The first character I first fell in love with
Harry Sullivan. Jac Rayner in Wolfsbane covers all the reasons why Harry was so cool in a one-paragraph passage near the beginning of the book, so I won’t recount them here. - The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Jamie McCrimmon. When I first met Jamie in “The Five Doctors” I didn’t know who this ghost was or why I should care, and even “The Two Doctors” a few years later didn’t give me any real reason to like Jamie. But when I finally discovered the extant Troughtons a few years ago I discovered that Jamie was easily one of the best companions, and he and Troughton played off each other so well that I feel the addition of a screaming female, especially Victoria, wasn’t at all necessary. - The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Rose Tyler. She comes across to me as slutty, unintelligent white-trash, and I can’t for the life of me understand why the Doctor thinks she’s worthy of travelling in the TARDIS. - The character I love that everyone else hates
Melanie Bush. - The character I used to love but don’t any longer
This is a toss-up, so I’ll name both and give the reasons.
First, Charlie Pollard, because I feel that by the time of “Zagreus” she was horribly overused to the point where she overshadowed the Doctor; just let her go already. Second, Ace, because while I thought she was alright in seasons 25 and 26, I don’t understand quite why she keeps going and going; haven’t we had enough Ace by now, is there really anything more to say? To sum this one up, Doctor Who companions have a limited shelf-life, and both Ace and Charlie are well past their sell-by dates. - The character I would shag anytime
Sarah Jane Smith - The character I’d want to be like
Ian Chesterton - The character I’d slap
Victoria, just to shut her up. Jeez louise, the least little thing happens, and she screams like she’s in an eardrum shattering contest. - A pairing that I love
In romantic terms, Ian and Barbara. In character-dynamic terms, the second Doctor and Jamie.
Ian and Barbara are meant to be together, and the second Doctor and Jamie play off each other so well on their own–just listen to “Evil of the Daleks” and you’ll hear what I mean. - A pairing that I despise
The ninth Doctor and Rose.
