On Complaints Over Typefaces

The media can be stupid.

While that can be a general complaint, in this case, there’s a specific reason I say that.

Hillary Clinton has come under fire because she wrote her resignation letter using the Poor Richard font.

Really? Seriously? She goes in for criticism because of the font?

I’ve used Poor Richard. I suppose it’s meant to evoke Benjamin Franklin. It’s a nice font. It’s not my favorite font (that would be Palatino Linotype), but it’s a font with character and style.

If she had used Comic Sans, I could see a reason for criticism. But she didn’t.

But even then, it’s just a font.

Just a font.
