I went to Best Buy last night, in search of a DVD and a CD both released within the last week. I walked out with two DVDs, neither of which I had gone in to buy. The music CD? They hadn’t heard of it. Life goes on.

On Nuclear Weapons
I heard about the North Korean nukes on the BBC World Service this morning on the way to work. I can’t say I was surprised. I can say I was disappointed. Not in the North Koreans–we knew what they were up to since the mid-90s. I was disappointed in the President for treating the NorthContinue reading “On Nuclear Weapons”
On Handwriting
I can’t write in cursive. In elementary school cursive was taught in third grade. I skipped over third grade, went straight from second to fourth. In fourth grade, I had to play “catch-up” on cursive. I won’t say that I had great cursive handwriting, but it was good enough, and through junior high school andContinue reading “On Handwriting”
A Voice From the Past
I turned on Instant Messenger tonight, and much to my surprise saw a name active on the Buddy List I hadn’t seen online in a very long time. My best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The last time I saw her was five years ago today. It was in Annapolis. It was a heavy snowstorm building to aContinue reading “A Voice From the Past”
Reflections
Five years, today. Five. Years. What a span of time. (If this is uncharacteristically cryptic, pay this no mind. Explanations won’t follow.)
The Social Calendar
My quest for a life outside work continues. The other night at Barnes & Noble I picked up one of their activity flyers as per my wont, but this may have been the first time I’ve really looked at what they had on the schedule. At the end of February–last Monday of the month, toContinue reading “The Social Calendar”
Philosophy Moment
A friend and I were talking today about a mutual acquaintance, and she brought up some of the curve balls life had thrown his way, some of the mistakes he had made. She felt unsure as to whether or not she should bring them up, because I might think less of him down the road.Continue reading “Philosophy Moment”
More Snow
Thursday was warm, temperatures in the low forties. What was left of the ice and snow from the day previous melted off. More snow was in the forecast, though. Snow showers, starting after midnight. At midnight it began to rain. At one it had changed to a mix, rain and snow. Now, at four, it’sContinue reading “More Snow”
Emergency Road Trip IV
Sleep makes me feel better. The trip yesterday didn’t go quite as planned, but it was, in general, a good trip. We left Raleigh at ten, as planned, but my grandmother didn’t want to go back to Rocky Mount and the hospital to see her sister, so I didn’t force the issue. It was aContinue reading “Emergency Road Trip IV”
Emergency Road Trip III
I pulled into my driveway precisely at midnight, only to discover that my legs didn’t work quite right. I’m tired. We’ll tell the tale tomorrow after sleep.
