Every day I read Atrios‘s webpage for a quick survey of political trends of the day. Just today, he posted about Doctor Who. From his comments on the new Christopher Eccleston series: But, the UK version of “family friendly” is certainly at odds with what would be acceptable for us. Take the new Who, forContinue reading “On Doctor Who and American television”

More on Eccleston
And now for a completely different take on Christopher Eccleston’s departure from Doctor Who, an article on the national website of Wales: The news Christopher Eccleston has quit as Doctor Who just days after the new series started may have come as a shock to fans, but the show’s writer says the actor had neverContinue reading “More on Eccleston”
On the next Doctor
As I mentioned a few days ago Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston will be leaving the program at the end of this season, the new series’ first. Eccleston is under contract for a second season. He’s said he just won’t do it. The BBC could force Eccleston to fulfill the terms of his contract, butContinue reading “On the next Doctor”
On the topsy-turvy Doctor Who world
Today, the BBC announced that they have renewed Doctor Who for a Christmas special and a second season of thirteen episodes. Also today, Christopher Eccleston announced that he will be leaving Doctor Who after the Christmas special, giving him a single season as the ninth Doctor. On the one hand, the sky is falling. OnContinue reading “On the topsy-turvy Doctor Who world”
On the Coming of Heffalumps!
I saw a commercial today for Disney’s new animated film about Pooh and the Heffalumps. The animation looks sub-par. Still, it’s Pooh, and that forgives a lot. The film opens Friday, I think. Must remember–go see the Heffalump movie! In the meantime, why not read Peter David’s The Genesis of the Heffalumps?
On Childhood Television Crushes
As seen on Bill Leisner‘s LiveJournal: List five fictional people — from television, movies, books, whatever — that you had a crush on as a child (or early teens). Then post this on your LiveJournal so other people can be assured that you’re as weird as they thought. 5. Vina (Susan Oliver of Star Trek:Continue reading “On Childhood Television Crushes”
Should the Torch Be Passed?
In a posting on TrekBBS’s Science Fiction forum V’Ger asked (with spelling and punctuation corrected), “[U]nless the [new Doctor Who] series plans to do a flashback with McGann regenerating down the line [into the Christopher Eccleston Doctor] (Perhaps a Doctor team-up?), how should the eighth Doctor bow out, say, in a novel or audio drama?”Continue reading “Should the Torch Be Passed?”
More on the Doctor
In the comments, John S. Drew wrote, “See, I got Tom Baker and I would have thought I would have been more like Peter Davison.” This was one internet quiz where I thought the final result wasn’t obvious from the questions. Too often the questions are few and rather pointed, so gaming the answers canContinue reading “More on the Doctor”
Unstable? Unstable!
A quiz taken from Todd Kogutt’s LiveJournal: You are the Sixth Doctor! Quite unstable and aggressive from time to time, most certainly stubborn and conceited all the time. You have a bit of the First Doctor’s piss and vinegar, though you’d hate to hear what he would have to say about your clothes. Despite yourContinue reading “Unstable? Unstable!”
E-mail woes
Well, that was fun. Yesterday morning my e-mail program, The Bat, locked up, giving me the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. I had downloaded on Thursday the latest upgrade and installed it over my current version. Through Thursday and Friday everything was fine. But not Saturday. Note to self: Leave well enough alone. If itContinue reading “E-mail woes”
